The Amazon region is formed by the departments of Amazonas, Caquetá, Putumayo, Vaupes, Guaviare and Guainia.

The Amazon is shared by Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil. The Colombian side has about fifty thousand inhabitants. Naturaly a resources seem infinite, but they aren´t, and its people belong to indigenous ethnic groups, about fifteen, who live in small communities such as Nazareth and the island of monkeys. Its capital is Leticia, where most of the inhabitants of the department, between mestizos and Indians. Recently tourism is higher in this region, mainly attracted foreign and domestic natural beauty and the river whichgives life to the whole region and connects the country with its neighbors.
